Country Name

Indonesia, officially the Republic of Indonesia.

It is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania, between the  Indian

and  Pacific oceans.

It consists of more than seventeen thousand islands,

Indonesia border neighbors are East Timor, Malaysia, and

Papua New Guinea.

The reason for naming the country

The name Indonesia derives from Greek "Indos", and "nesos", which means "Indian islands".

In 1850, George Windsor Earl, an English ethnologist, proposed the terms Indunesians—and, his preference, Malayunesians—for the inhabitants of the "Indian Archipelago or Malayan Archipelago.

The flag of Indonesia was adopted on 17 August 1945 after gaining independence.

The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, where the top one is red and the bottom stripe is white.

Several opinions have been expressed on the meaning of Indonesia

flag colors.

One opinion is that the red stands for courage,

while the white stands for purity.

Another opinion is that red represents the human body or physical life,

while white represents the soul or spiritual life.

Together they stand for a complete human being.

Flag Fact:

- Unofficially, the flag is called "Sang Saka Merah Putih" - "Noble red and white flag".

- The flag of Indonesia is very similar to the flag of Monaco.

The government officially recognizes only six religions:  Islam, Protestantism, Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism; with indigenous religions only partly acknowledged.

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim-majority country with the majority being Sunnis.

There are an estimated 700 languages used in Indonesia, most of which are Austronesian languages.

The official language is the Indonesian language as indicated in the Indonesian Constitution, the Indonesian language is the most widely used language in the country and is used in all formal communication particularly in media, administration, and commerce.
